At your comprehensive exam we will discuss your main concerns, symptoms, review your health and dental history. We will then measure your tongue’s range of motion, assess your swallowing ability, identify any compensatory patterns and discuss potential restrictions present. We will discuss different treatment modalities and develop an individualized, comprehensive treatment plan. My goal is that by the end of your exam you will have a clearer understanding of how orofacial myofunctional disorders contribute to the root causes of your symptoms and feel empowered to make behavior changes for optimal dental and overall health.
The comprehensive exam would ideally be an in-person appointment with subsequent therapy visits completed virtually. Currently seeing in person patients in Silverdale, WA.

A full or mini myofunctional therapy program is an effective method for addressing noxious habits like finger sucking and nail biting. These behaviors often stem from improper tongue and oral muscle function, which can be improved through targeted exercises. The therapy focuses on retraining the muscles of the face, mouth, and tongue to function correctly, thereby addressing the root causes of these habits. With consistent practice, individuals learn to maintain proper tongue position and mouth posture, reducing the urge to engage in these behaviors naturally.
If a habit elimination component needs to be added to the full myofunctional therapy program (typically ages 7+) an additional $75 will be added to program fee for the myomunchee appliance and protocol adjunct service.

I am a myomunchee certified practitioner. The myomunchee is a removeable, prefabricated, simple and ready to use oral appliance developed by Dr. Kevin Bourke in the 1960’s. Its goal is to help develop a “chewing habit”. Chewing a myomunchee helps to improve dental hygiene, lip and face muscle strength. It is a great appliance for helping treat multiple different conditions ranging from drooling/dribbling to TMD. Currently I primarily use the myomunchee in the mini myo program and habit elimination component in a full myofunctional program. It is a great tool for replacing the pacifier or aiding in a thumb sucking habit elimination as it promotes correct occlusion, chewing and swallowing and helps reverse impacts of non-nutritive sucking habits.
A myomunchee and a protocol for using the myomunchee is included with every mini myo comprehensive exam.
A myomunchee appliance and protocol are available as an “add on” adjunct to a full myofunctional program for an additional $75.
First steps
It all begins with scheduling your free 20-minute virtual consultation and myofunctional screening. Please visit the “ Book Appoimtment” tab on this website to schedule. I am currently offering free virtual consultations on Tuesday afternoons and Saturdays and allowing appointments to be booked a minimum of 24 hours in advance and a maximum of 21 days in advance. During your consultation you can determine if myofunctional therapy resonates with you. We will then schedule your comprehensive myofunctional exam. The exam is a 60-90 minute appointment where we will review your medical and dental history, discuss your concerns, record a series of measurements of your tongue and face, take photos, discuss the links of any myofunctional disorders to your symptoms and develop your treatment plan. The fee for the comprehensive exam is $100 and is due at the time of service.
The mini myo program comprehensive exam includes a comprehensive myofunctional exam, a myomunchee appliance and protocol, as well as the first session of the mini myo program. The mini myo comprehensive exam fee is $175 and will be due at the time of service. This visit and subsequent mini myo visits are strongly recommended to be completed in person, virtual appointments will be a case-by-case basis for this age group. ““We are just beginning to realize how common and varied are the viscous habits of the lips and tongue, how powerful and persistent they are in causing and maintaining malocclusion, how difficult they are to overcome, and how hopeless is success in treatment unless they are overcome”.
Edward H. Angle, Nov. 1906
